If you live in the United States, then you've heard about the great GMO debate. GMOs (which stands for genetically-modified organisms) have been linked to a variety of ailments and they pose a risk to our families' well-being. The video linked here is a great resource to learn even more.

I have been aware of the controversy surrounding GMOs for a few years now. When I started working on the family organic farm, I learned a lot about GMOs and the reason for going organic. The farm was conventional until the past decade, and they made the switch to non-GMO feed for their cattle and no pesticide use on their fields. Before working on the farm, I was not aware of what GMOs were and had no idea why there was controversy. In my opinion, I don't think the labeling of GMOs should be so secretive, especially if companies truly believe in the safety of their GMO products. I was surprised by all of the foods that are contain GMO that they discussed in the video GMO Foods? How To Tell, Truth About Genetically Modified Foods & Label GMO Psychetruth Nutrition (check it out with link below).
I was very surprised to hear about the GMO corn derivatives found in foods. I don't think many people realize that these ingredients are all corn derived, because corn isn't directly in the name (specifically xanthan gum, citric acid, MSG and dextrose). I 100% believe GMOs should be labeled- people deserve to know what is in their food without confusion. The evidence of corruption with Monsanto and in the food industry is appalling and something needs to be done to change this.
Coming from a background in organic veggie farming, we can see why pesticides are used, but we also don't agree with the use. Pesticides can greatly increase a crop's chances of survival when it comes to insects. It's not uncommon to lose crops due to insects and we have to be very diligent about using crop covers and paying attention to the needs to the plants when not using pesticides. Pesticides can increase profits for farmers by increasing their yield with less supervision and worry about their crops. Even though there is potential for more success with pesticide use, I think there are significant risks that come with consuming foods grown with pesticides.
